Protesters in Hpa-an today demanded the immediate release of Dr. Cho Yu Mon, principal of Hpa-an Technical High School, who was arbitrarily arrested by the police on February 5 for campaigning the Red Ribbon in the campus. She was charged under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and sent to Hpa-an Prison on that day.
Today, February 17 is the first trial of Dr. Cho Yu Mon. Therefore, protesters sat in front of the court and demanded for her release. But the trial was held by video conferencing. A family member of Dr. Cho Yu Mon said that next trail was re-appointed on March 3.
In addition to the principal, protesters also demanded the immediate release of detained Karen State Prime Minister Nang Khin Htwe Myint and other ministers; the head of the engineering department and assistant archivist at Hpa-an University.
